For Senior Travel, Convalescence, the Disabled, and the Grieving
Plantation Bay is one of the best choices in the world for older travelers, persons recovering from illness, and persons with special physical or emotional needs.
- Cheerful staff with infectious good humor — the best of all cures, and the best way to feel young again.
- Ideal for multi-generation families, with activities and features to delight the young and the not-so-young in a unique village atmosphere.
- Peaceful, relaxing ambience proactively enforced. Plantation Bay is one of the quietest and most tranquil resorts in the entire world. (Yet it’s only a 20-minute drive to major shopping, dining, and gaming centers.)
- All our important food and activity areas are easily ACCESSIBLE. Almost the entire resort is on a single level, with paved roads ideal for walking, or for getting around in mobility-assistance devices (electric devices available, free, subject to availability).
- Unlike many resorts laid out repetitiously like prison camps, Plantation Bay offers a colonial-plantation feel throughout, but with constantly-evolving landscape and architecture, like a real village. Every bend in the road surprises and delights.
- Don’t get stuck in an enclosed room that’s 10 minutes’ walk from any restaurant or facility (and effectively from any human contact), as in most resorts. Over half our guest rooms are on the ground floor, offering immediate immersion in Plantation Bay’s charming village ambience and many facilities. In case of fire (not that we ever had one), even with moderately impaired mobility you can be outdoors in a flash, unlike in most hotels where escaping fire is problematic even for fully-mobile persons.
- Many sheltered rest areas are scattered around the resort. No fighting other guests for breathing room or a place to just be at peace with yourself.
- Nurse on duty 16 hours daily, doctor on call 24/7. Duty Manager and Telephone Operator available round-the-clock. By prior arrangement, we can also provide haircutting, manicuring, and simple dental services on site.
- Healing massages and guided physical therapy are available at our 17th-Century-Japanese-themed spa, whose entrance is via a short ramp from the main roadway. It’s like gliding through a magic portal to another world.
- Blind persons will appreciate our flowering plants and trees, the soothing sounds of rippling water, and gentle sea breezes. If you’re searching on behalf of a blind or deaf loved one, search no further.
- We also work hard to provide delicious food from a variety of international cuisines; even our breakfast menu changes daily so that you don’t get bored even in the course of a long stay.
- Our spa offers massages for all tastes and moods, from babying to masochistic. Many enthusiasts have rated our Spa one of the best, or THE best, they have ever experienced.
- Several unique free-of-charge or minimal-cost activities to promote family bonding, tranquility, and/or mental health: Birdwatching, Botanical Tour, Name Game based on resort signage, yoga classes, use of Spa facilities (sauna, steam bath, pools, lounging areas; children are not permitted in the Spa). Communing with Nature (charges apply, some mobility issues may rule out): boat rides to neighboring islets and sand bars, mountain picnic, whale shark excursion. Hyperbaric oxygen chamber (charges apply), said to help with some developmental difficulties as well as wound healing.
- Most rooms are only a few steps away from the main roadway, quickly reachable by hotel vehicle. You can be on your way to either of two nearby hospitals (15 minutes’ drive) within a few minutes of calling for help. Compare that with being in a mid-rise resort several hundred meters away from the elevators and a lobby that is several hundred meters away from the parking lot, or in a remote location far from modern medical facilities (e.g., most of Greece, the Red Sea, Turkey, Maldives, Seychelles, much of Thailand, much of Vietnam, and most other Philippine destinations like Palawan, Bohol, Siargao, Boracay).
- Telephone addiction is bad for your well-being and your family relations. With everyone’s interest in mind, audible telephones and electronics are prohibited in most dining areas and the gym, and completely prohibited in the spa. Repetitive shouting and screaming are discouraged. Proactive enforcement of Peace and Quiet policies helps all guests relax and de-stress. There are few better hotels in which to recover from an operation or illness, or to come to terms with grief.
- At Plantation Bay, diversity and inclusivity come naturally, but we are not Woke. If you are neurodivergent or non-binary we will respect you, but we expect respect in return for our staff and other guests, and proper decorum in public. We don’t allow the tail to wag the dog. Don’t make us learn new pronouns for you, or insist that your particular wants outweigh those of all the others in our community.
- As a resort with extensive grounds and unique features, we are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all our guests. In almost 30 years of operation we have never lost any guest by drowning or other accident, or due to failure to respond promptly to a medical emergency. We would like to maintain this spotless record. Persons with developmental disabilities are welcome, so long as they are able and willing to follow our strict safety rules, which are for their own protection and everyone’s benefit.
