Frequently Asked Questions

Get to Know the Real Plantation Bay

We collected the questions we hear most so you can plan with confidence—from why our resort feels different to how we uphold our service guarantees.

1

Why should I choose Plantation Bay over other hotels in Cebu?

Two main reasons. One, it is the only 5-star hotel that is designed as an actual resort with a distinct atmosphere, not an apartment building dropped onto a beach. Two, it has a unique location in Mactan due to its proximity to the Third Mactan Bridge, which leads to downtown Cebu. Plantation Bay is therefore a Real Resort which is ALSO just 20 minutes from major shopping, casino, and restaurant complexes, or 30 minutes from the heart of Cebu City. All other 5-star "resorts" in Mactan are 60-120 minutes from the center of Cebu.

2

What kind of guests is Plantation Bay best suited for?

Plantation Bay is the best resort in the Philippines for all who seek a real break from their stressful lives; seniors; couples; groups of young adults; multi-generation families; and business visitors accompanied by spouses. It is also better-located for golfers and divers than any other major resort in the Cebu area. Finally, Plantation Bay is preferred by discriminating companies which want the best value for their MICE budgets, leading to the most-satisfied participants and most-fruitful conference results.

3

I've heard complaints that Plantation Bay has overly-strict rules against noise and telephone use?

Most of our guests are educated and considerate of others, and therefore have no problem whatever with our policies. Occasional complaints come from a very few self-important people who refuse to respect others' rights to a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. Most hotels don't care, but we do, and we enforce our policies for everyone's benefit. It's up to you to decide which kind of person you are, and which kind of person you'd like you and your family to be exposed to on your holiday.

4

Plantation Bay was built many years ago. Aren't your rooms and facilities dilapidated?

Visitors today often remark that the entire resort looks almost new. Our spread-out, low-rise architecture allows us to renovate rooms and facilities continuously. At this time (December 2025), most of our lagoon-facing rooms and suites appear practically brand-new with no significant functional or cosmetic defects. Deluxe Poolside and Family Rooms look about 3-5 years old. All our guest rooms and bathrooms are better-fitted and furnished than any other 5-star resort in Mactan, even the newer ones. Our rooms are also larger than the typical rooms of competing resorts (46 sqm vs. 36 sqm for the next-largest). If you're concerned about this, keep in mind our 100% Guarantee: if you get here and don't like the condition of the hotel, or feel that you were misled in any way, speak up in 4 hours and you'll get all your money back. (Applies only to direct bookings during non-blackout periods.) No other hotel in the world offers such a guarantee.

5

Your food advertising and menu descriptions often claim "World's Best" or similar superlatives. Really?

Really. Most 5-star hotels or Michelin-cited restaurants have GMs and chefs who know just one or two cuisines, and who anyway have limited personal experience as customers. Our owners lived and worked on four continents and still travel extensively in Europe, Asia, Australia, North America, and Latin America. They know how the cuisines of the world are supposed to taste, and often how to improve on them. Whether the food is Filipino, Asian, Latin, European, or American, on the terms that matter to most people — flavor, memorability, repeatability — many of our dishes are as good as you'll find anywhere. Knowledgable patrons rarely disagree. Please navigate to our Dining page for more details.

6

What are its Filipino dishes that Plantation Bay claims are equal to the World's Best?

Kare-kare (oxtail stew). Adobo (done correctly for a change). Cebu Heart-of-Palm Spring Rolls. Home-made Ube Ice Cream and Shakes. Crispy Pata. Dinuguan (when offered in buffets). Pancit Palabok. Ensaymada. Crêpes des Îles. Chicharrón (the Colombian recipe). Longganiza.

7

And what are some of the international foods that Plantation Bay has elevated?

Prawn Tempura (uber-crispy). Japanese A5 Steak (toasted). Chile con Carne (enriched). Croissants (made by hand with Belgian butter). Hamburger (with zero additives). Danishes (better than New York). Caesar Salad (recognizably Caesar, but worlds apart from any you'll find anywhere else). Roman-Style Carbonara (a little more unctuous than the Roman original). Paella Filipina (more powerful than Spanish paella). Manny's Ceviche (a refreshing improvement over the sour, soggy ceviche found elsewhere).

8

If Plantation Bay is so great, how come it doesn't have higher scores on TripAdvisor or booking.com?

For very little money, hotels can plant hundreds of false "verified reviews" to inflate their booking.com scores. For almost no money at all, hotels can plant thousands of perfect Tripadvisor reviews about themselves, or plant false negative reviews against competitors. We don't do this.
